Quintessential: The Field Jacket

Originally conceived for utilitarian purposes, the field jacket got its start from the military. Thanks to it's versatility, this perennial medium-weight outerwear garment renders itself a true all season essential.

Explicitly suggested by the names, the field/safari jacket needed to be an all purpose, all season garment. Offering soldiers and hunters alike much needed pocket space, it typically featured four large bellow pockets on the chest and waist. It's weight needed not add to that of the ammunition, binoculars and head-wear hence lightweight cotton/linen lightly constructed wouldn't weigh them down in the scorching heat.

The safari jacket is one of the most versatile outerwear offerings available today. No longer viewed as a garment worn purely by the wealthy, it has, like many of its military cousins, surpassed its origins and become an important sub-genre in contemporary menswear today. Whether you’re looking for an alternative replacement for the traditional blazer, or you want a lightweight jacket you can throw over a white T-shirt and jeans, the safari jacket is a viable option that will only get better with time. Available in Olive Green, Khaki & Navy Blue.
